BnB Colombia Tours, 9 Day Group Tour: Colombian Caribbean – Cartagena to Tayrona Park

The following itinerary has been complied with much care and is provided in good faith. However small changes may occur during your tour or prior to your departure date. This may be caused by extreme weather, safety concerns or just recommendations from previous clients that will improve your experience.

Itinerary 2019 / 2020

Day 1 Santa Marta

Welcome to the Serra Nevada de Santa Marta!
Arrive at any time, your driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel. There are no activities planned for this day, so just relax and drink plenty of water. If you arrive early we may be able to organize an additional tour for you, or simply give you directions to the nearest beach.

Day 2 Santa Marta

Tayrona National Park – Cabo San Juan

You’ll enjoy a 2-hour ecological walk through the jungle and visit 4 beaches along the way including Arenillas, La Piscina, Cabo San Juan and Los Arrecifes.
Once you’ve arrived you’ll enjoy some fantastic beach time (approx. 3 hours), along with time to explore the area or partake of some watersports, such as snorkeling. After your beach-time has passed you’ll enjoy an ecological walk, but this time for 1.3-hour. During your ecological walks, you will learn about the local environment and the local indigenous. You’ll learn about what native animals can be seen and or heard; where Caimen are likely to be hiding if they are around; which beaches are safe to swim in and which have taken many a life, which indigenous are from this area, where they live, and what they do while Tayrona Park is closed for a month every year.

Tour time approximately 9-10 hours (8am-5pm).

Day 3 Santa Marta

Enjoy a Free Day Exploring at your own speed or take up an optional tour to Minca:

Optional Tour Details: Travel to the small town of Minca, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy this wonderful little mountain pueblo (town) full of artisan shops. Enjoy a tour of a Cocoa Plantation, a Coffee Plantation, hidden Waterfalls, a bamboo house, and some exotic bird watching.

The optional tour will be for approximately 8.3 hours with a tour cost from $22 pp.

Day 4 Santa Marta

Enjoy a Free Day Exploring at your own speed or take up an optional tour to a  Kogi Indigenous Village:

Enjoy another free day in paradise or take up an optional tour visiting a Kogi Indigenous Village:

Optional Tour Details: Enjoy a relaxing transfer up the coast to the beautiful seaside town of Palomino where you’ll be changing transport to the back of a motorbike and take a 1-hour ride through some magnificent scenery to the Kogi village of Tungueca.
Here you’ll enjoy visiting and interacting with both the young and old Kogi people for approximately an hour, before heading off to take a refreshing swim in some spectacular waterfalls nearby.

The optional tour will be for approximately 7 hours with a tour cost from $57 pp.

Day 5 Santa Marta / Cartagena

Transfer to Cartagena + Day/Night City Tour included

Relax in a morning drive along the coast and through the mountains to the awaiting walled city of Cartagena. Once here you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy some free time before a City Tour starting around 4:30 pm. On this wonderful tour you will not only get to see the most important sites and this beautiful city during the day but the spectacular sight of this ancient city under lights as well.

Day 6 Cartagena

Free Day in Cartagena or relax with an optional tour to the Rosario Islands:

Optional Tour Details: You’ll be starting your day with a 7:30 am pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. From there we’ll take you to pier de la bodeguita (Wharf of the Bodeguita) where a speedboat will be waiting to take you on a breathtaking ocean cruise touring the Rosario Islands to arrive at a beautiful picturesque beach. Once here you’ll also be assigned your personal beach space, which will be exclusive for yourself and members of your group.

You’ll receive full beach service, a fantastic typical lunch; use of deckchairs and umbrellas; a cocktail on arrival and English speaking hosts. You will not receive any annoying beach vendors trying to sell you souvenirs or anything you do not wish.

You will have the full day to relax and enjoy your space, along with the ability to hire gear for snorkeling, paddleboarding or kayaking.

This will be one of the highlights of your Caribbean adventure!

Day 7 Cartagena

Free Day in Cartagena or enjoy an optional Mangrove and Mud-Volcano Tour

Optional Tour Details: You’ll enjoy a mud bath in the mineral-rich, world-famous El Volcán de Lodo El Totumo (The mud volcano of Totumo). Here locals will help you massage the mud onto your body. After your relaxing mud bath, a group of women in the Totumo Marsh will be responsible for your cleaning. At the end of this process, we head to the beautiful beaches of Manzanillo del Mar where you’ll enjoy a swim in the tropical waters.
Next, you’ll enjoy a fabulous typical Caribbean lunch including Coconut rice, fried fish, green salad and patacones (think of them as banana fritters).
Following lunch, you’ll explore the Cartagena Mangroves in a canoe skippered by an expert local fisherman; following this you’ll enjoy a walk through their community to see how the locals truly live.

Day 8 Cartagena

Make your own plans for today or enjoy an optional tour to San Basilio de Palenque. 

Optional Tour Details: If you’re interested in history and culture, then you may also like an optional tour, exploring the location of the First Free Africans in the Americas!
You’ll learn not only the rich history of this location but also the true story of an African king who escaped his slave owners and setup the fortified community of San Basilio de Palenque. From here he helped free countless more slaves and eventually was given his freedom by the King of Spain.
Discover the traditional African food, dance, and language all unique to this part of Colombia.

The optional tour will be for approximately 6 hours with a tour cost of $22 pp.

Day 9 Cartagena

Departure Day, depart at any time.
We’ll have transport waiting to take you to the airport at your desired time.

Your arrival transfer will be arranged based on the flight information provided to us. If you are advised of a flight schedule change within 48 hours of your scheduled arrival time, we will do our best to rearrange your arrival transfer however we cannot guarantee this. If your arrival transfer does not arrive within 30 minutes after you have exited the arrivals area please contact us to arrange a taxi to take you to your hotel.
