BnB Colombia, AMAZING COLOMBIA 16 Day Bogotá to Cartagena Group Tour, Full Itinerary

The following itinerary has been complied with much care and is provided in good faith. However small changes may occur during your tour or prior to your departure date. This may be caused by extreme weather, safety concerns or just recommendations from previous clients that will improve your experience.

Itinerary 2019 / 2020

Day 1  Bogotá, Welcome to Colombia!

Arrive at any time, your driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel.
There are no activities planned for this day, so just relax and drink a lot of water to help you adjust to the altitude. If you arrive early we may be able to organize an additional tour for you.

Day 2  Bogotá Free Morning or Optional tour – La Candelaria, and Mount Monserrate

Enjoy a Free Morning in Bogotá exploring your surroundings until you are collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport at 1 pm for your afternoon flight to the Coffee Zone.
OR if you would prefer you can enjoy an optional tour of La Candelaria and Monserrate and go directly to the airport from your tour.
Included in your tour you’ll encounter the most important historical locations within La Candelaria. Such as where the rebellion against the Spanish was first planned; the Palace of Justice; Plaza Bolivar, and many more.
Once you have visited these beautiful sites it will be time for you to ascend to the great height of Monserrate, almost 2,000ft above Bogotá. Here you’ll have time to wander through the artisan markets, visit a beautiful 17th-century monastery and enjoy some of the most spectacular panoramic views of the capital city of this great nation.

Day 3 Salento Free Day or Optional Tour – Thermal Hot Springs + Filandia

Today is your day to relax and explore by yourself OR if you prefer we can offer you a wonderful tour of the magical location of the Thermal Hot-Springs of Santa Rosa, followed by Filandia.
Surrounded by a tropical jungle you’ll walk through and soak up the mineral-rich waters in this amazing setting. You’ll wander through these beautiful grounds and explore the unbelievable waterfall. (Photos just do not do this place justice!)
On your return, you will take a bit of a detour and enjoy the amazingly colorful town of Filandia. If you thought Salento was an exceptionally colorful town with wonderful architecture, you will absolutely love this place, and the views are simply Espectacular!

Day 4  Coffee Zone, Wax Palms, and Coffee!

You will be collected from your hotel and enjoy a wonderful drive through the Cocora Valley where you will walk through the amazing Wax Palm Forest. You’ll find a sense of peace and belonging here that simply envelops you without you even knowing.
Following this, you’re off onto a coffee tour in an amazing boutique coffee Finca. Here you’ll not only learn the entire process from seed to cup. But you’ll discover how the owner of this Finca is one of the few who can create the perfect coffee bean without the use of any machinery.
This beautiful Finca is also where you’ll enjoy a wonderful night with the sounds of the birds and rushing river nearby lulling you into a deep peaceful sleep.

Day 5  Coffee Zone / Medellín – Comuna 13 + City Tour

Enjoy a transfer to Pereira airport in style with your private Willys Jeep taking you to the front door.
On arrival to Medellín, you will be collected and taken to check-in to your hotel before enjoying a magnificent city tour of this wonderful city, along with an in-depth tour of Comuna 13. The complete journey you will take today will be guided with our local expert guide who will explain every part of the good, bad and the sometimes-ugly history of this fantastic city

Day 6  Medellín Free Day or Optional Tour – Guatape

Enjoy a free day to explore Medellín by yourself OR enjoy a tour to Guatape Rock!
Your optional tour would include a drive through some of the most beautiful scenery on to the replica town of Old Peñol; this town was actually flooded and is the bottom of Lake Guatape now.
You’ll then carry on to the big rock known as La Piedra (The Stone), Guatape Rock and El Peñol. Once there you will have the opportunity to climb the 740 steps to the very top with absolutely breathtaking views every step of the way. Once you’ve got to the top you’ll have time to catch your breath and take a million photos before leisurely taking the 740 steps back down again.
After you have returned to the ground you will be collected and driven to the nearby Guatape Town, where you’ll enjoy a walking tour of the cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings.
Next, you have a choice of making your way back to Medellín or first enjoying a boat cruise on lake Guatape itself. Here you can spend around an hour cruising and (if you choose) stopping at one of Pablo Escobar’s Fincas’; called La Manueal after his daughter.

Day 7  Medellín Free Day or Optional Tour – Santa Fe de Antioquia OR Jardin

Today is another free day for you to explore by yourself, OR if you prefer we can offer you one of 2 Exceptional Optional Tours today.

Option #1. Santa Fe de Antioquia
The historic town of Santa Fe de Antioquia, where you will enjoy a fantastic guided tour through this beautiful town declared a national monument in 1960. Here you will discover buildings dating back to the colonial times, an absolutely delightful plaza (main square) and learn the history of the church that was never completed.
After you have wandered these stones streets and taken many perfect photos you will continue on to the Western Bridge. This bridge was actually built by an architect that was also involved with building the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
Optional Tour costs from $35 pp. Approximate Duration: 9 hours (8:00am – 5:00pm)

Option #2. Jardin
Jardin is Spanish for “garden”, and you’ll understand completely why when you visit this beautiful town. This is another of Colombia’s 17 heritage towns and is simply a beautiful town famous for its colorful colonial buildings, lush vegetation, colorful floral displays, rivers, and wonderful views.
Optional Tour costs from $35 pp. Approximate Duration: 12 hours (7:00am – 7:00pm)

Day 8 Santa Marta – The Caribbean Life

Welcome to the Serra Nevada de Santa Marta!
Your driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel.
There are no activities planned for this day, so just relax, enjoy your surroundings and drink plenty of bottled water.

Day 9  Santa Marta, Tayrona National Park – Cabo San Juan

You’ll enjoy a 2-hour ecological walk through the jungle and visit 4 beaches along the way including Arenillas, La Piscina, Cabo San Juan and Los Arrecifes.
Once you’ve arrived you’ll enjoy some fantastic beach time (approx. 3 hours), along with time to explore the area or partake of some watersports, such as snorkeling. After your beach-time has passed you’ll enjoy an ecological walk, but this time for 1.3-hour. During your ecological walks, you will learn about the local environment and the local indigenous. You’ll learn about what native animals can be seen and or heard; where Caimen are likely to be hiding if they are around; which beaches are safe to swim in and which have taken many a life, which indigenous are from this area, where they live, and what they do while Tayrona Park is closed for a month every year.

Tour time approximately 9-10 hours (8am-5pm).

Day 10  Santa Marta Free Day or Optional Tour to Minca

Optional Tour Details: Travel to the small town of Minca, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy this wonderful little mountain pueblo (town) full of artisan shops. Enjoy a tour of a Cocoa Plantation, a Coffee Plantation, hidden Waterfalls, a bamboo house, and some exotic bird watching.

The optional tour will be for approximately 8.3 hours with a tour cost from $22 pp.

Day 11  Santa Marta Free Day or Optional Tour to a Kogi Indigenous Village

Enjoy another free day in paradise or take up an optional tour visiting a Kogi Indigenous Village:

Optional Tour Details: Enjoy a relaxing transfer up the coast to the beautiful seaside town of Palomino where you’ll be changing transport to the back of a motorbike and take a 1-hour ride through some magnificent scenery to the Kogi village of Tungueca.
Here you’ll enjoy visiting and interacting with both the young and old Kogi people for approximately an hour, before heading off to take a refreshing swim in some spectacular waterfalls nearby.

The optional tour will be for approximately 7 hours with a tour cost from $57 pp.

Day 12  Santa Marta / Cartagena Transfer to Cartagena + Day/Night Cartagena City Tour 

Relax in a morning drive along the coast and through the mountains to the awaiting walled city of Cartagena. Once here you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy some free time before a City Tour starting around 4:30 pm. On this wonderful tour you will not only get to see the most important sites and this beautiful city during the day but the spectacular sight of this ancient city under lights as well.

Day 13  Cartagena Free Day or an Optional Tour to the Rosario Islands:

Optional Tour Details: You’ll be starting your day with a 7:30 am pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. From there we’ll take you to pier de la bodeguita (Wharf of the Bodeguita) where a speedboat will be waiting to take you on a breathtaking ocean cruise touring the Rosario Islands to arrive at a beautiful picturesque beach. Once here you’ll also be assigned your personal beach space, which will be exclusive for yourself and members of your group.

You’ll receive full beach service, a fantastic typical lunch; use of deckchairs and umbrellas; a cocktail on arrival and English speaking hosts. You will not receive any annoying beach vendors trying to sell you souvenirs or anything you do not wish.

You will have the full day to relax and enjoy your space, along with the ability to hire gear for snorkeling, paddleboarding or kayaking.

This will be one of the highlights of your Caribbean adventure!

Day 14  Cartagena Free Day or Optional Mangrove and Mud-Volcano Tour

Optional Tour Details: You’ll enjoy a mud bath in the mineral-rich, world-famous El Volcán de Lodo El Totumo (The mud volcano of Totumo). Here locals will help you massage the mud onto your body. After your relaxing mud bath, a group of women in the Totumo Marsh will be responsible for your cleaning. At the end of this process, we head to the beautiful beaches of Manzanillo del Mar where you’ll enjoy a swim in the tropical waters.
Next, you’ll enjoy a fabulous typical Caribbean lunch including Coconut rice, fried fish, green salad and patacones (think of them as banana fritters).
Following lunch, you’ll explore the Cartagena Mangroves in a canoe skippered by an expert local fisherman; following this you’ll enjoy a walk through their community to see how the locals truly live.

Day 15  Cartagena Free Day or Optional Tour to San Basilio de Palenque. 

Optional Tour Details: If you’re interested in history and culture, then you may also like an optional tour, exploring the location of the First Free Africans in the Americas!
You’ll learn not only the rich history of this location but also the true story of an African king who escaped his slave owners and setup the fortified community of San Basilio de Palenque. From here he helped free countless more slaves and eventually was given his freedom by the King of Spain.
Discover the traditional African food, dance, and language all unique to this part of Colombia.

The optional tour will be for approximately 6 hours with a tour cost of $22 pp.

Day 16   Cartagena, Departure Day, depart at any time.

All local flights are included in the cost of your tour! It is important that we have your passport information at the time of booking in order to process these tickets. Internal flight tickets are issued locally and will be given to you prior to the flight departure.

Airport Transfer
Your arrival transfer has been arranged based on flight information provided to us. If you are advised of a flight schedule change within 48 hours of your scheduled arrival time, we will do our best to rearrange your arrival transfer however we cannot guarantee this. If your arrival transfer does not arrive within 30 minutes after you have exited the arrivals area please contact us to arrange a taxi to take you to your hotel.
