The following itinerary has been complied with much care and is provided in good faith. However small changes may occur during your tour or prior to your departure date. This may be caused by extreme weather, safety concerns or just recommendations from previous clients that will improve your experience.

Itinerary 2018 / 2019

Day 1  Bogotá, Welcome to Colombia!

Arrive at any time, your driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel.
There are no activities planned for this day, so just relax and drink a lot of water to help you adjust to the altitude. If you arrive early we may be able to organize an additional tour for you.

Day 2  Bogotá, La Candelaria, and Mount Monserrate

 You’ll be collected from your accommodation in Bogotá and taken on a guided excursion, where you’ll encounter the most important historical locations within La Candelaria. Such as where the rebellion against the Spanish was first planned; the Palace of Justice; Plaza Bolivar, and many more.

Once you have visited these beautiful sites it will be time for you to ascend to the great height of 10,341 ft (3152m) and the summit of Monserrate; almost 2,000ft higher than Bogotá. For this climb, you have the choice of taking either the teleferico (aerial tramway) or the funicular. Here you’ll have time to wander through the artisan markets, visit a beautiful 17th-century monastery and enjoy some of the most spectacular panoramic views of the capital city of this great nation. You’ll learn how this mountain was sacred to the indigenous Muisca’s people for hundreds of years, how during the June solstice, the Sun rises exactly from behind Monserrate and how thousands of pilgrims journey to this destination every year.

Day 3  Zipaquira / Raquira / Villa de Leyva

You’ll be collected from your hotel in Bogotá and be taken directly to the salt mine of Zipaquirá. Where you’ll uncover the ingenuity of the people who 590 ft (180 m) underground converted this ancient salt mine into the amazing church that receives as many as 3000 people every Sunday of the year.

Once you’ve finished your tour, taken many photos and come to understand how important this location has been for hundreds of years to the locals of this area you’ll take the short trip to the town of Zipaquirá where you’ll wander the streets of Zipaquirá checking out the grand Plaza (main square), Independence Square and one of the oldest churches you can find in Colombia.

Following Zipaquirá you’ll continue onto the wonderful town of Ráquira. This town is absolutely full of artisans and a dream location for anyone wishing to do a bit of shopping. You’ll find everything here from hammocks to pottery and all Colombian made.

For those interested in taking photos and not shopping, there are some fantastic streets and a wonderful town plaza full of clay statues.

Next, you’ll be arriving in the late afternoon of your final destination; Villa de Leyva. Here you’ll take a quick tour with your guide, before enjoying a wonderful night with the cobblestone streets lit with the romantic light of the lanterns littering the sides and walls of the colonial buildings.

Day 4  Villa de Leyva / Bogotá, Back to The Capital

Today you’ll enjoy a fantastic breakfast followed by a wonderful tour of the most important locations in and around Villa de Leyva.

Your Villa de Leyva tour will include:

  • Monasterio Del Santo Eccehomo – Declared part of Colombia’s architectural heritage in 1998, the initial convent was founded in 1620. This is simply a beautiful monastery built on a hillside and consisting of a wonderful cloister, church, cemetery and plaza, with wonderful views.
  • The Terracotta House – Explore the largest piece of pottery in the world. Wander through the many rooms taking photos from the many angles. This really is quite amazing!
  • The Fossil Museum – See, touch and feel the bones of dinosaurs that once ruled this world.

After your tour of Villa de Leyva is complete you start your journey back to Bogotá in the early afternoon, with a photo-stop at the Puente de Boyacá (Boyacá Bridge), one of the most important bridges in Colombian history where the “Battle of Boyacá” was fought and won by the rebels. This finally provided New Granada independence from Spain.

Day 5  Bogotá / Salento Finca, The Coffee Life!

Enjoy a morning flight and a transfer to your Finca on the outskirts of Salento. Once here you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your settings for the remainder of the day or if you prefer we can organize a tour for today as well. Perhaps you’d like to visit some beautiful small towns such as Marsella or Pijao and Cordoba.

Day 6  Coffee Zone, Wax Palms, Salento and Coffee!

 You will be collected from your finca (a traditional Colombian farmhouse or estate in a rural setting) and taken for a wonderful drive through the Cocora Valley where you will walk through the amazing Wax Palm Forest. You’ll find a sense of peace and belonging here that simply envelops you without you even knowing.

Following this, you’ll enjoy a walking tour of Salento, including the famous Calle Real and up to the mirador (lookout); where you’ll have a sensational view over more of the valleys far below.

Next, you’re off onto a coffee tour in an amazing boutique coffee finca. Here you’ll not only learn the entire process from seed to cup. But you’ll discover how the owner of this finca is one of the few who can create the perfect coffee bean without the use of any machinery.

Day 7  Coffee Zone, Free Day or Thermal Hot Springs + Filandia or Belalcázar + Viterbo

Today is your day to relax and explore by yourself, or if you would prefer we have 2 fantastic tours for you to choose from.

#1 Take a trip to the magical location of the Thermal Hot-Springs of Santa Rosa. Surrounded by a tropical jungle you’ll walk through and soak up the mineral-rich waters in this amazing setting. You’ll wander through these beautiful grounds and explore the unbelievable waterfall. (Photos just do not do this place justice!)

On your return, you will take a bit of a detour and enjoy the amazingly colorful town of Filandia. If you thought Salento was an exceptionally colorful town with wonderful architecture, you will absolutely love this place!

#2 Sit back and relax as you are driven high through the plantations of Coffee and Plantain (similar to bananas) to reach the peak of Belalcázar. Once here you’ll enjoy the breathtaking views of 4 states of Colombia and the amazing sight of a giant statue of “Christ the King” overlooking the valleys and town below. You’ll climb to the top of this giant statue and enjoy a full 360% view for 100’s of miles in every direction.
Next, you’ll enjoy a short journey to the entrance of Viterbo, where you enjoy a wonderful ride through the entrance lined with Saman trees and wooden statues that have been carved out of old sick trees that once lined the road. You’ll then continue onto a man-made lake full of fish, which will be where you’ll stop for lunch. You’ll also have a choice of catching for your own lunch using a bamboo-fishing pole or simply enjoying lunch someone else has previously caught.

Day 8  Coffee Zone / Medellín, Hello Medellín!

Not ready to leave the Coffee Zone? 

Let us know if you’d like to extend your stay in this beautiful region. Perhaps you’d like to add a Cocoa Tour; or a Hot Air Balloon ride; maybe you’ll enjoy Rafting down the river Viejo on a bamboo raft and a picnic on the rivers side; perhaps a trip to Belalcázar (amazing views over 4 Colombian states and a 45m tall statue of Christ the King; which you can actually climb up into the very top) and Viterbo where you can go fishing for your lunch with bamboo poles or enjoy a horseback ride.)

Enjoy a transfer to Pereira airport in style with your private Willys Jeep taking you to the front door.

On arrival to Medellín you will be collected and taken to check-in to your hotel and given a little “me-time” to refresh before being collected for a magnificent city tour starting in the Plaza Botero, and including a tram and cable car ride. The complete journey you will take today will be guided with our expert guide who will explain every part of the good, bad and the sometimes-ugly history of this fantastic city

Day 9  Medellín, Guatape

 You’ll be driven through some of the most beautiful scenery on to the replica town of Old Peñol; this town was actually flooded and is the bottom of Lake Guatape now. The only part of this town that is still visible is the church spiral that sticks out of the water, marking the spot for everyone to see (you may visit this spot later in the day).

After you have walked through the replica overlooking Guatape Lake, you will carry on to the big rock known as La Piedra (The Stone), Guatape Rock and El Peñol. Once here you will have the opportunity to climb the 740 steps to the very top with absolutely breathtaking views every step of the way. Once you’ve got to the top you’ll have time to catch your breath and take a million photos before leisurely taking the 740 steps back down again.

After you have returned to the ground you will be collected and driven to the nearby Guatape Town, where you’ll enjoy a walking tour of the cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings.

Next, you have a choice of making your way back to Medellín or first enjoying a boat cruise on lake Guatape itself. Here you can spend around an hour cruising and (if you choose) stopping at one of Pablo Escobar’s finca’s; called La Manueal after his daughter.

Day 10  Medellín, Santa Fe de Antioquia

Your first stop of the day will be a cable car ride (actually 4) across lush valleys filled with farms of everything you can image, as well as beautiful trees and rivers. You’ll be making 3 stops along the way to change cable cars and for more fantastic photos.

Following this you will carry on to the historic town of Santa Fe de Antioquia, where you will enjoy a fantastic guided tour through this beautiful town. Here you will discover buildings dating back to the colonial times, an absolutely delightful plaza (main square) and learn the history of the church that was never completed.

After you have wandered these stones streets and taken many perfect photos you will continue on to the Western Bridge. This bridge was actually built by an architect that was also involved with building the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

Day 11  Medellín, Free Day or Optional Comuna 13 Tour

Enjoy a Free Day exploring Medellín by yourselves or perhaps you’d like to take a tour to Comuna 13?

This neighborhood was once one of the most dangerous in Colombia, but now it is covered with amazing murals and graffiti and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. On this tour you’ll also enjoy a cable car ride, fruit tasting and get to ride the outside escalators, which helped transform this neighborhood into what it is today.

Day 12 The Caribbean Life – Santa Marta

Let us know if you’d like to extend your stay in this beautiful region. Perhaps you’d like to add a tour to Comuna 13, and discover the amazing transformation this suburb has gone through; once being the most dangerous location in Medellin to receiving tourists every day of the year.

Perhaps you would enjoy a tour to a flower farm, where you’ll learn the centuries old skill of creating a silletas; a wooden framework full of flowers, which are carried by Silleteros in the Medellin Flowers Festival in August of every year.

Welcome to the Serra Nevada de Santa Marta!
Arrive at any time, your driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel. Depending on the hotel-style you choose, you will be staying in the Historic Sector of Santa Marta or surrounded by native jungle and vegetation.

There are no activities planned for this day, so just relax and drink plenty of water. If you arrive early we may be able to organize an additional tour for you, or simply give you directions to the nearest beach.

Day 13  Santa Marta, Minca – A Breath of Fresh Mountain Air

Travel to the small town of Minca, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy this wonderful little mountain pueblo (town) full of artisan shops. Enjoy a tour of a Cocoa Plantation, hidden Waterfalls (take a refreshing swim), a bamboo house and some exotic bird watching.

Day 14  Santa Marta, Tayrona National Park – Cabo San Juan

You’ll be taken into Tayrona National Park and enjoy a 2-hour ecological walk through the jungle, visiting 4 beaches including Arenillas, La Piscina, Los Arrecifes, and Cabo San Juan. You’ll learn about the local environment and the local indigenous; about the native animals that can be seen and or heard; where Caimen (similar to an alligator) are likely to be hiding if they are around; which beaches are safe to swim in; which indigenous are from this area and what do they do while Tayrona Park is closed for a month every year.
Once you’ve arrived in Cabo San Juan you’ll enjoy some fantastic beach time (approx. 3 hours), along with time to explore the area or partake in watersports, such as snorkeling. After your beach-time has passed you’ll enjoy a 1.3-hour walk through the jungle and your waiting transportation.

Day 15  Santa Marta, Free Day or Kogi Indigenous Village or Playa Cristal

Free Day: Relax and make your own plans for today or enjoy one of 2 additional tour options.

#1 Visit a Kogi Indigenous Village. Enjoy a relaxing transfer up the coast to the beautiful seaside town of Palomino. Here you’ll be changing transport to the back of a motorbike and take a 1-hour ride through some magnificent scenery to the Kogi village of Tungueca. Here you’ll enjoy visiting and interacting with both the young and old Kogi people for approximately an hour, before heading off to take a refreshing swim in some spectacular waterfalls nearby.

Next, you’ll head back to the village to say your goodbyes and any last-minute photo opportunities. Then back onto the motorbikes for a ride to Palomino and your waiting transportation.

#2 Tayrona National Park – Playa Crystal. Enjoy another excursion into the magical Tayrona Park; this time enjoying different scenery, a lookout over Seven Waves beach, 2 boat rides and a spectacular beach with crystal clear waters. With this tour you’ll enjoy at least 4-5 hours of wonderful beach time in Playa Crystal.

Day 16  Santa Marta / Cartagena (or extend your stay)
Transfer to Cartagena and a Day/Night City Tour

Relax in a morning drive along the coast and through the mountains to the awaiting walled city of Cartagena. Once here you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy some free time before a City Tour starting around 4:30pm. On this wonderful tour you will not only get to see the most important sites and this beautiful city during the day, but the spectacular sight of this ancient city under lights as well.

Day 17  Cartagena, Rosario Islands

You’ll be starting your day with an 8am pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. From there we’ll take you to pier de la bodeguita (Wharf of the Bodeguita) where a speedboat will be waiting to take you on a breathtaking ocean cruise touring the Rosario Islands to arrive at a beautiful picturesque beach. Once here you’ll also be assigned your personal beach space, which will be exclusive for yourself and members of your group.

You’ll receive full beach service, a fantastic typical lunch; use of deckchairs and umbrellas; a cocktail on arrival and English speaking hosts. You will not receive any annoying beach vendors trying to sell you souvenirs or anything you do not wish.

You will have the full day to relax and enjoy your space, along with the ability to hire gear for snorkeling, paddleboarding or kayaking.

This will be one of the highlights of your Caribbean adventure!

Day 18  Cartagena, Free Day or Mangrove and Mud-Volcano Tour

Free Day: Enjoy parts of Cartagena you haven’t yet explored or an optional Mangrove and Mud-Volcano Tour.

Enjoy a mud bath in the mineral-rich, world-famous El Volcán de Lodo El Totumo (The mud volcano of Totumo). Here locals will help you massage the mud onto your body. After your relaxing mud bath, a group of women in the Totumo Marsh will be responsible for your cleaning. At the end of this process, we head to the beautiful beaches of Manzanillo del Mar where you’ll enjoy a swim in the tropical waters. Next, you’ll enjoy a fabulous typical Caribbean lunch including Coconut rice, fried fish, green salad and patacones (think of them as banana fritters).

Following lunch you’ll Explore the Cartagena Mangroves in a canoe skippered by an expert local fisherman; following this you’ll enjoy a walk through their community to see how the locals truly live.

Day 19   Cartagena, Departure Day, depart at any time.

We’ll have transport waiting to take you to the airport at your desired time.

If you are advised of a flight schedule change within 48 hours of your scheduled arrival time, we will do our best to rearrange your arrival transfer however we cannot guarantee this. If your arrival transfer does not arrive within 30 minutes after you have exited the arrivals area please contact us to arrange a taxi to take you to your hotel.
