Club Los Lagartos

What is known today as Club Los Lagartos, was in the days of old indigenous Muisca territory. The Musica lived here and carried out their agricultural activities around the marshlands of the area. The Tibabuyes lagoon is where they performed religious and cultural ceremonies.

Today Club Los Lagartos is a prestigious golf club located in the northwestern sector of Bogotá that offers fantastic facilities for sports and recreational activities. It has two 18-hole golf courses, including one of the highest-ranked in the country, the David Gutierrez course.

It displays a classic design that does not interfere with the natural topography of the terrain. Built on the side of a hill, it has a varied selection of holes, from flat to undulating.

It is a course distinguished by the numerous bunkers close to the greens, so one’s game needs to be undertaken with caution and accuracy. Players with natural long strokes should be able to lower par with relative ease.

The course is 36 holes and is where David Gutierrez won the Colombian Open in 2015 and as a result, the course is named after him. Located in the heart of Bogotá, the course was redesigned in 2012 by Jack Nicklaus architect Scott Miller.

Covering approximately 6,300 yards, the course plays to a par of 72, thirty-six out, and thirty-six in, with the holes arranged as two returning nines. Small ponds and a large lake command a significant role and come into play at more than half the holes, particularly the front nine.

The main features are two of the closing three holes on the front nine. The par three 7th. plays to a green perched right on the lake. The long par four 9th. swings left off the tee with the lake to the right as the fairway turns towards a peninsular green.

On the inward half, the par three 10th. calls for a full trajectory to the green, positioned on the far side of a corner of the lake. This is followed a while later by the par-four 15th which doglegs to the right with an out-of-bounds area to the left. A small pond protects the front right of the green, so great accuracy is required.

This is a wonderful, demanding course right in Bogotá itself. The clubhouse facilities are first class, including fine dining options.

San Andrés Golf Club

Calle 15 # 24-11, Funza, Cundinamarca
+57 6 1 823 7742

San Andrés Golf Club was formed in 1945 on the western reaches of Bogotá. It preserves its fine Scottish architecture and is one of the oldest courses in Colombia. There is a fine 18-hole parkland layout, thanks largely to the architectural skills of Stanley Thompson and Robert Trent Jones Sr. Today San Andrés is recognized and rated by the publication The Rolex World Top 1,000 golf courses as the finest course in the country.

The old masters arranged the fairways on a largely level section of land to the northwest of the capital and today, the San Andrés course has matured into a tight, tree-lined course where narrow playing fairways place a premium on pinpoint accuracy at just about every hole.

Measuring 7,201 yards, the par 72 course does not permit golf carts, so either you engage the services of a caddie or play and caddie yourself. The holes vary pleasantly in length as they thread their way through the undulating woodlands.

Golfers will count themselves lucky to stay within their handicaps and will want to bring an extra ball or two as the accuracy of shots is at a premium. There are distractions in that airplanes frequently fly low overhead and play is highly subject to the contrary Bogotá weather conditions.

Back-to-back par fives at the 7th. and 8th. are highlight holes on the front nine, whilst the water-protected 6th. is the pick of the three short holes on the outward half. Water comes more into play on the back nine as it plays a significant part in the signature hole at the par-four 11th., running down the left side of the fairway, from tee to green.

San Andrés also has a course designed for practicing precise shots to the green. Narrow approaches with small greens that are surrounded by deep bunkers, become a short course of 9 holes with two teeing terraces. Additionally, San Andrés has one of the few children’s golf courses with 18 holes.

The clubhouse is excellent and features staff accustomed to visitors from the US and Europe. It is a warm and welcoming environment and has a good restaurant complimented by the Carpe Diem bar.
