A shaded suburban mansion set in the heart of the capital, it is an ideal retreat for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Draw up a comfortable chair close to the fireplace and elude the omnipresent rain of Bogotá.

Twin minarets separate the hotel into two elements, with the original house of the Medina family and an extension, built some forty years ago. At first glance both sections blend into one, however, the original building contains authentic wood paneling and unique handcrafted cedar doors.

The room with the best original features is suite 303, which has an entire wall of handcrafted panels. Small details across the hotel pay homage to its founding architect, Santiago Medina, with stained-glass windows depicting birds and flowers. There are open fireplaces in several of the sixty-two rooms and all come equipped with a television, a Nespresso machine, and a docking station with excellent WiFi. The hotel has some interconnecting rooms and can provide cribs and extra beds free of charge for young people. However, there are no activities as such for children or daycare facilities.

The staff at Casa Medina are noticeably friendly throughout the hotel. Many of the staff are bi-lingual. There is a spa with full body treatments, with all the oils sourced from local and ecological suppliers. A small gym, complete with weights and treadmills for more active people, is available as well as a steam room.

Castanyoles restaurant sits in the colonial courtyard under a glass roof, which gives a fabulous al fresco dining effect. The Mediterranean menu offers Spanish tapas alongside southern European-style dishes and homemade pasta prepared by an Italian chef. The Sunday brunch is totally spectacular with the very best value and quality of food and drink. The selection ranges from premium cheeses to fresh sushi, pastas, pizzas and varied Colombian delicacies.

Grand Hyatt Bogotá

Calle 24a #57 – 60, Bogotá
+57 601 654 1234

Located in the central Teusaquillo neighborhood, Bogotá’s upscale business district, the property is more or less thirty minutes from La Candelaria, Bolívar Square and the historic Old Town area, depending on traffic. However, the hotel is an easy walk to the Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park, similar in style to New York City’s Central Park.

An added advantage is that El Dorado Avenue is partially shut down on Sundays, so it is possible to go for a walk or bike ride down a normally busy thoroughfare. It is a great experience to see a normally bustling city without traffic.

The property is extremely impressive from the outside, as it features a modern facade with clean lines and walls of windows. It is one of the newer buildings in the area, having just opened in October 2018.

Upon entry one is immediately awestruck by the lobby, which features incredibly high ceilings and lots of open spaces. Light streams in from the wall-to-wall windows with bold colors adorning the area.

Admire the cool, curved shape of the interior. It is reminiscent of many hotels commonly seen in the 1980s but with a modern, elevated twist.

The expansive rooms feature sweeping views of Bogotá from floor-to-ceiling windows. Designed around the curved shape of the building, the rooms highlight a king-size bed with a large flat-screen TV. The bed itself is fantastically comfortable, with four plush pillows and sparkling clean sheets.

The view from the floor-to-ceiling windows steals the show, though. While you could easily spend your entire stay gazing across the vast city in front of you, there are pull shades available to block all light from pouring in at sunrise.

Air conditioning provides the ability to control the temperature as you like it. The bathroom is spectacular. The layout is well thought out, offering ample space for a walk-in shower, a dual vanity, a marble bathtub and a private commode in its own walled-off area. Water pressure is superb and high-end bathroom amenities from a Colombian luxury brand are provided. The Wi-Fi speed is excellent too, providing a great environment for working or pleasure.

On the ground floor is the expansive Zaitania Spa, one of the largest spa complexes in Latin America, according to the hotel!

Designed with an emphasis on water, the sprawling facility features an indoor pool large enough for swimming laps, plus a hot tub, a hydromassage pool and a thermal shock pool.
Reservations are required for the main pool.
There is in addition a steam room and a sauna, as well as spacious locker rooms for men and women.

There is also an incredible gym. Occupying a space with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in lots of light, the fitness center is equipped with everything you could possibly need, from free weights to treadmills to yoga mats and exercise balls.

Capitalino Restaurant off the lobby has tremendous breakfast options. Offering a mix of a la carte dishes and buffet stations, the eatery provided an impressive array of food and beverage items. Incredibly delicious fresh juices along with tasty local fruit, such as dragon fruit and granadilla, while the smoothies are exceptional.

There is also the Ushin Japanese Grill on the 14th floor that serves Japanese-inspired delicacies, including sushi, ramen, gyoza and tempura.

The Ilustre Bar in the lobby offers a selection of craft cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, while the Aldeana Market café is available as well, should you want a cup of Colombian coffee and a sweet treat to eat on the go.

Experience the epitome of modern luxury in an urban oasis that redefines sophistication. Its sleek architecture and contemporary design are complemented by impeccable service and a wealth of amenities.

Boasting spacious rooms with panoramic city views, this hotel is renowned for its cutting-edge design and sophisticated ambiance.

The neoclassic building still looks more like a private residence rather than a hotel. The design concept throughout features dramatic contrasts between the ancient and contemporary.

The hotel is to be found on a narrow, bustling street in La Candelaria, conveniently within walking distance of many popular attractions and numerous superb restaurants. Close by are the Botero Museum, Bolívar Plaza, Gold Museum and many others.

The intimate vibe makes this hotel the ultimate luxurious romantic stop for couples. In the elegant lobby dark wood pillars, classical wall art and scattered antique furniture are strikingly juxtaposed against the ultra-modern glass elevator. The feel is one of this being a palatial home. There is a very attractive floral patterned tiled floor with mustard-coloured walls. The ground floor also leads to the restaurant, which serves a fabulous breakfast and dinner plus a lounge room.

JW Marriott Hotel Bogotá

Calle 73 #8-60, Chapinero, Bogotá
+57 601 481 6000

The JW Marriott Bogota structure is a mundane, steel, marble and glass building stretching ten floors high. However, once you enter the lobby, the warmth of Colombian influences blends with classic décor in an instant welcome.

Situated right in the financial district of bustling Bogotá, amid many corporate offices, JW Marriott naturally draws business travelers. Given its close proximity to major tourist attractions and fabulous dining areas, leisure seekers find themselves here too. Both enjoy the hotel’s surprisingly varied and dynamic gastronomic scene, which boasts authentic Japanese fare at Nau Sushi Lounge as well as Asian-Latin fusion at Tamarine.

Perhaps as recognition to the famous Colombian coffee and the rich volcanic soil, inviting browns, tans and beige colors accent the walls and floors. Occasional splashes of vibrant color are found in the fresh flower arrangements.

Further evidence of the Eje Cafetero/Coffee Region can be seen in the Juan Valdez coffee shop located on the corner of the hotel, frequented by hotel guests and locals alike.

The front desk unobtrusively blends in, as if not to distract from the living room-style open lobby, but the service is immediate.

Lobby lounging is inviting with comfortable chairs and couches with a convenient lobby bar, which opens onto a lovely outdoor patio with water features.

Spacious beds and ample living space are the JW Marriott style and the Bogotá property is no different.
The guest rooms are just as impressive as the crisp, clean and contemporary lobby, with Egyptian cotton linens and divinely comfortable beds. Soundproofed windows keep out the city noise and aromatherapy toiletries in the expansive marble bathrooms are exceptional.

The rooms feel like they belong in a boutique Colombian hotel. They tout rich dark wooden furniture, splashes of bright red accents, Colombian sculptures and paintings and tropical plants.

The luxurious spa is an oasis from within the loud city with a large indoor pool and a full-service health club with brand-new gym equipment.

Treat yourself to the spa’s Diamond Glitter ritual, which uses mineral extracts from diamond, amethyst and sapphire stones to recover firmness and a youthful appearance. The two hours plus experience starts with a full body exfoliation followed by a moisturizing massage and a sublime facial.

Tamarine, the cool and chic Asian fusion restaurant in the hotel serves wonderfully fresh Pacific seafood. The lobster tails served on a bed of creamy avocado and butternut puré are supreme, while the tempura and gyoza prawns are historic.

Keeping with the Asian influence, Nau Sushi Lounge offers an incredible variety of succulent and fresh sushi rolls and a vast collection of authentic Japanese sakes and innovative cocktails, like green tea and sake martini.

Combined with the cozy ambiance, plush red couches and simple black tabletops, the atmosphere at Nau Sushi Lounge feels like you are in in New York or Tokyo.

If the aroma of freshly baked pizza in a brick flame oven does not lure you into Circo, the open terrace bar, the lively sound of Bogota’s musicians most certainly will. This is one of the best places to enjoy a drink and listen to all types of scintillating music.

The décor at Circo is as beautiful as the music and food, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a green wall outfitted with succulents and fresh plants.

The location of the JW Bogotá cannot be beaten. It is within walking distance to 93rd. Street Park and the coveted Zona G gastronomy district.

The hotel itself is complete luxury with outstanding.
