Colombia is a stunning country with bustling cities and astonishingly contrasting landscapes. These tours afford you the opportunity to experience the melodious vibes of Latin cities with the extreme diversity of the countryside.

With a rich history, Bogotá is a fascinating city to explore. The sprawling city is far larger than most imagine. A perfect city to start the experience.

Kicking off with an incredible Welcome Dinner, you will experience the pulsating centre of Bogotá including La Candelaria, whose streets are full of amazing colonial buildings along with the opulent Presidential Palace and seat of Government.
La Candelaria, which is actually a town made up of six barrios, is the pride and main tourist attraction of Bogotá. The architecture still preserves the magic of the colonial era while the cultural, historical and gastronomic offering is beyond any imagination. It is still made up of narrow, cobbled streets, as well as churches of the time and colonial houses that were the domains of the Spanish aristocracy.

La Candelaria is a small memory of what Bogotá was like during colonial times and the later republican age.

In the heart of Bogotá is the extraordinary Gold Museum which will dazzle you with the most extensive collection of pre-Hispanic goldwork in the whole world. It features many archaeological treasures including art, jewels, medallions, coins, and much more.

Street art (graffiti) in Bogotá is famous throughout the world. It is both beautiful and political.
See local neighbourhoods where graffiti expresses social ideas and thoughts of local artists. They express their feelings about the present communal situation, social troubles, Colombian history and the armed conflict on street walls. You’ll see examples which illustrate artistic interpretations of the country’s history and current events. (Only available in the High-End 15-day Colombian Highlights)

At 3,152m/10,341´, Monserrate is the highest point in Bogotá. It is the point of reference for all residents of the capital. At the summit is a monastery, Santa María de la Cruz de Monserrate, whose origin dates back to the 17th century. The hill has been a place of pilgrimage since colonial times. You may ascend the 610m/2,000´ by climbing, funicular or cable car. The views are simply outstanding.

Moving out of the great city of Bogotá, you will explore the salt mines of Zipaquirá, with a church built in the shaft of an abandoned halite salt mine 200m/656´ beneath the surface. Living a unique experience so deep underground is indescribable. Witness the beauty and majesty of the Zipaquirá Cathedral which will fascinate you with its fusion between spirituality, architecture and magic.

Other fabulous colonial pueblos you will visit, the architecture of which is spectacular, include Villa de Leya to name but one.
Time seems to have stopped in Villa de Leyva, which retains much of its colonial past through its architecture. Without a doubt, the town is one of the most beautiful in the country and is famed for its historic importance and magnificent square. In fact, the Plaza Major is the largest in Colombia and one of the most impressive in South America, with over 14,000 square metres/150,000 square feet.

Barichara is often described as the loveliest town in Colombia and not without good reason. It is a truly glorious pueblo with stunning architecture along with beautiful natural surroundings. The town has cobblestone streets and whitewashed buildings with red-tiled roofs. Bright colours decorate the simple facades that harmoniously emerge among the cobbled streets, earth walls, terracotta roofs, wooden doors and windows. After a hike to Guane, you will enjoy a fabulous gastronomical tour, experiencing local cuisine particular to the region. The pueblo is a hidden gem and one of the most beautiful places to visit.

Medellín is also famous for its festivals. From Colombia Moda (Fashion Week) in July to Feria de las Flores (Flower Festival) in August, to the International Jazz Festival in September, to the most spectacular of Christmas light displays in December, there is rarely a dull moment in the city.

Guatapé is a sensational area created from the flooding of two pueblos to create a dam. Cobblestone streets are adorned with houses painted in multiple colours. El Peñón de Guatapé, or La Piedra del Peñol, is a 220m/722´ high monolith located between the municipalities of Guatapé and El Peñol and has 702 steps to climb to the top! A wonder of nature, from where you can see a panoramic view of the reservoir of more than 2,200 hectares/5,436 acres. Once there the views are literally out of this world. The lake and numerous tiny islands make for a spectacular sight. This is a bucket-list experience everybody needs to have at least once in their lifetime.
