Empresas Públicas de Medellín now owns most of the park. They debated long over the land’s use, which holds vast water resources and lush natural vegetation.
Indigenous people once occupied the area, later exploited for mining by Europeans. Foreign trees were planted to restore the damaged native flora. These were rapid growing trees including cypress, pine and eucalyptus. Native trees are slow developers, hence the need for more rapid growth.
In 2002, commercial entities, EPM, and Medellín’s Mayor’s Office planned a park to promote nature and ecosystem education. They also explored eco-friendly, efficient ways to access it.
Thus the idea of the metro cable as a means of transport was born.

The climb begins at Acevedo station, located on the main line A of the metro rail network. From there, enter the cable car line which elevates you over the mountains to the park. The 30-minute ride offers stunning city views, making it a must-do in Medellín.
The route entails two cable car sections, the first being a 2k/1 ¾ mile crossing from Acevedo to Santo Domingo station, which takes about ten minutes. You will skim over house tops of the poorest section of the city, at times almost touching them.
For years, these neighborhoods remained slums, isolated from the city and opportunities in the Aburrá valley center.
Then change of lines to the Parque Arví line, a 3 mile/4.6kms. leg that goes directly to the park, in about 15 to 20 minutes. As you ascend the scenic gondola lift, enjoy mesmerizing panoramic views of lush greenery and vibrant nature.

The Mercado Arví, near the Metro Cable station, is perfect for unique souvenirs like clothing, jewelry, local coffee, and paisa foods.
To top it off, there are often performances next to the market by musicians and dancers. Just behind the market, a magnificent garden full of hydrangeas offers the opportunity for a relaxing picnic with friends.
As a result of its higher altitude, the weather at Parque Arví is something different to downtown Medellín, typically being colder and with higher rainfall but also stronger sun rays. The diverse climate means anyone planning a visit to Parque Arví should come prepared for all conditions.
The park also hosts various events and workshops that highlight its commitment to sustainability and conservation, making it an educational experience for visitors.
The MICE auditorium spans 254 sq. m (2,734 sq. ft), seating 300 people. It’s versatile for conferences, exhibitions, and more, with advanced technology for successful events.
Catering for events can be arranged to include coffee stations and also breakfasts and lunches.
