El Arsenal Rum Box

This little spot across from Cartagena’s Convention Center at the start of Calle El Arsenal in Getsemaní also offers up some unique cocktails. It’s a good place to do a rum tasting as well, as they have a number of lesser-known, hard to find Colombian rums.
But even if you’re not a rum fan, there are other good mixes here as well, including some unique martinis. The tapas are tasty as well, especially the grilled peppers. And don’t forget to get yourself one of the free hugs. Whether at the outdoor tables or the inside lounge, El Arsenal is a great spot to enjoy a few early evening drinks, which lands it on this list of the best bars in Cartagena.
-
Caponera

Located around the corner from El Arsenal, just a short walk from Cartagena’s Clocktower, Caponera has long been a landmark where locals and tourists mingle. Its original location was recently closed to make way for a new hotel.
The new location, just a block away, may not have the same lived-in feeling of the old bar, but it still offers up good drinks for fair prices and sports a larger inside as well as more outdoor seating. There’s not a lot of frills or fancy drinks here, but it’s a landmark, locally run bar that captures the blend of old and new in Cartagena.
-
The Clock Pub

Located on the corner just inside the Clocktower, Clock Pub offers a more British or American style Cartagena bar, complete with burgers, wings, nachos, a dartboard, and a foosball table.

It makes for a good place to enjoy a beer and some bar food while catching a game, and it is one of the few places in Cartagena that shows NFL football. They also have occasional live rock bands.
-
Donde Fidel

Finally, no list of the best bars in Cartagena would be complete without the famous Donde Fidel. A long-running little salsa joint also located on a corner opposite Clock Pub just inside the Clocktower, perhaps the best part of Donde Fidel are the many outdoor tables located on Cartagena’s most iconic plaza. It’s a great place to cool off with an ice-cold beer in the early evening or just sit and chat and people watch at any hour.
If you’re feeling a bit braver, you can try finding a spot in the crowded inside to try on your salsa dancing shoes where you can also see all the photos of the owner Fidel with famous visitors throughout the years, a testament to the place’s long-standing fame. No visit to Cartagena is truly complete without enjoying a drink at this famous bar in Cartagena.
